Chronogram Choice: Rosendale Cafe 434 Main St., Rosendale. 658-9048.
We tip our hats to the Rosendale Cafe again this year as the Best Performance Space, and here’s why: Every Friday and Saturday—that’s 104 nights per annum, not
including special events like Trash Town or the occasional Thursday evening gig—the Cafe presents the most exciting and diverse musical performers in the area. Typical
performers from the past year: Trombone virtuoso Roswell Rudd, Graham Parker, Harvey Kaiser, Paul Geremia, and so on. No, they don’t book the big stars that appear at
the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, nor do they offer the variety of performances that Unison does. What they do offer is consistency, intimacy and cheap tickets—most shows
are only $6! So, the choice is yours—you can go and revisit the early Eighties with the teeming masses at the Civic Center when Styx comes to town, or sit twenty-five
feet or less from Vance Gilbert, or dance in the aisles to Soñando at the Cafe.
