Legendary master jazz singer Sheila Jordan makes a rare appearance in Rosendale, with close colleagues Cameron Brown (bass), Rob Scheps (tenor sax/flute), and Tony Jefferson (drums/voice).
An NEA Jazz Master, Sheila Jordan is a big part of jazz history. Credits abound, and include George Russell, Carla Bley, Tom Harrell, George Gruntz, Steve Kuhn, Harvie S, Alan Broadbent, and more. Her Blue Note record Portrait of Sheila is a classic. Charlie Parker is her biggest influence. Sheila's touring duo with brother-from-another-mother Cameron Brown is augmented by two of her fave colleagues, saxophonist Scheps and drummer Jefferson.
Tenor / soprano saxophonist Rob Scheps has performed with Gil Evans Band, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, John Scofield, George Russell, Bob Moses, Terumasa Hino, Al Grey, Clark Terry, Sam Rivers, Julius Hemphill, Duffy Jackson, Cecil Taylor, Joey Calderazzo Quartet... He leads his own bands; Magnets! with Kim Clarke; The Rob Scheps Big Band in Portland, Oregon; and the Rob Scheps Core-tet in NYC; which has a new CD entitled Live at Smalls on the way.
Bassist Cameron Brown has been Sheila's right hand man in Duo for many years, and was also part of the famed George Adams / Don Pullen Quartet. His other credits include Dannie Richmond, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Billy Hart, Dewey Redman, Joe Lovano, Idris Muhammad, Leon Parker, Tom Harrell, Dave Ballou, Jay Clayton, and George Russell.
Drummer and vocalist Tony Jefferson is one of the most in-demand drummers in the jazz world. His credits include Kenny Drew, Jr., Lou Donaldson, Eddie Henderson, Frank Wess, Gary Smulyan, Cedar Walton, John Abercrombie, and many more. Tony is also a fine jazz singer, as you will hear when he teams up with Sheila.
